Everything you need to know about shopping and consigning with Second Signature

Shopping With Us

What is Second Signature?

Second Signature is an online women's secondhand boutique based in Chelsea Heights, Victoria. We curate quality pre-loved clothing and accessories, giving beautiful pieces a second chance to shine. We also offer a full consignment service, so you can sell your own pre-loved pieces through us without lifting a finger.

Are all of your items secondhand?

Yes! Every piece in our store is pre-loved. All items are carefully inspected, cleaned if required and accurately photographed before being listed, so what you see is exactly what you'll receive. Any signs of wear are always noted in the listing description.

How do I know what condition an item is in?

Every listing includes detailed condition notes, measurements, and multiple photographs. We inspect every piece before listing it, and we only accept items that are clean, wearable, and free from significant damage. If a minor flaw exists, it will always be disclosed in the listing.

Do you offer returns?

As a secondhand boutique, all sales are final unless an item arrives significantly not as described. If something isn't right with your order, please contact us at info@secondsignature.com.au within 7 days of delivery and we will work with you to resolve it.

How is my order posted?

All orders are sent with tracked postage within Australia. You will receive your tracking number as soon as your order ships.

Do prices ever drop?

Yes! Items that have been listed for a while may be reduced — sometimes by up to 60% off the original price. It's worth checking back regularly or following us on socials so you never miss a markdown on a piece you've been eyeing.

Consigning With Us

How does consignment work?

It's simple — you book a slot, hand over your pre-loved pieces, and we do everything else. We photograph, measure, list, manage, sell, and post your items, and you earn a percentage of every sale. It's the easiest way to turn your unworn wardrobe into money.

What items do you accept?

We accept women's clothing and accessories across all price points — from everyday labels to premium pieces. All items must be:

  • Clean, freshly laundered and free from odour
  • Free from stains, holes, pilling, broken zippers or damage
  • Genuine — we do not accept counterfeit items

For items valued at $150 or more, we may ask for reasonable proof of provenance — such as an original receipt or authentication — before accepting them. We reserve the right to decline items that don't meet these standards. We don't decline items on the basis of low value — pricing is handled separately, and you always approve your prices before anything goes live.

How does the monthly intake work?

We process consignments in monthly rounds to make sure every item gets the time and attention it deserves. Book your preferred slot and ensure items are received by us by the 1st of that month and your items will go live 14 days later, on the 15th. We accept up to 10 sellers per round, and once a month is fully subscribed, bookings for that month will close.

What's the booking fee?

When you book your sellers slot and sign your Seller Consignment Agreement, you'll choose a specific slot from available months — a drop-off time, a postal dispatch window, or a local pickup day — and pay an $50 booking fee to lock it in. Bring your items as planned and the full $50 comes straight off your listing fee, so it costs you nothing. It's simply there to make sure booked slots are genuinely used; if items don't arrive as booked, the fee will not be refunded and the slot is released.

How much does it cost?

A one-off listing fee of $5 per item applies, paid upfront before we begin work (offset by your $50 booking fee, paid when you book your slot). This covers photography, measurements, listing creation and ongoing management of your items. The fee is non-refundable, regardless of whether your item sells.

How much do I earn when my item sells?

Your share depends on the final sale price of each item:

  • Under $100 — you receive 60%
  • $100 and over — you receive 68%

The higher your item sells for, the bigger your share.

How many items can I consign?

Each consignment lot must include a minimum of 10 items, with a maximum of 25 per lot — this applies whether you're dropping off, posting, or using our local pickup service. If you have more than 25, you are welcome to top up your lot within the first 30 days of your lot going live and as a bonus, there will be no listing fee charged per item.

How do I get my items to you?

Three easy options:

  • Drop-off — by appointment in Chelsea Heights, Victoria, at a time you choose when you book. Remember to complete our online Consignment Request Form, pay the listing fees.
  • Post — complete our online Consignment Request Form and pay any listing fees first, send your items via tracked postage to arrive within your booked round.
  • Local pickup — within about 20km of Chelsea Heights, we'll come to you for a flat $15 pickup fee, in addition to the booking fee. The pickup fee is payable at the time of booking and is non-refundable, including where the booking fee is forfeited.

How long will my items be listed?

Items are listed for up to 120 days. If your item is not selling within that 120 days, you might like to consider a discount to help it move — just get in touch and we can chat about the right markdown for your piece. There's no obligation to discount; it's simply an option if you'd like to explore it.

When and how do I get paid?

Payouts are made fortnightly, every second Friday, by bank transfer. You'll receive an itemised statement each payout showing exactly what sold, the sale price, and your earnings. A minimum payout threshold of $10 applies — anything under that simply rolls over to the next fortnight.

What happens if my item doesn't sell?

If your item is not selling within that 120 days, you'll have 14 days to collect your items (or arrange return postage for postal consignments). Items unclaimed after 14 days are donated to a local charity or retained as Second Signature stock.

What if I change my mind after my item sells?

Sales are final once confirmed — we don't offer change-of-mind returns to buyers. If something's genuinely not as described or faulty, a buyer can raise it with us within 7 days of delivery and we'll step in to sort it out.

Can I withdraw my items early?

Yes, you can request early withdrawal at any time. A small $2 per item processing fee applies, and your items will be ready for collection or return within 7 days. Please note listing fees are non-refundable.

Who decides the price of my items?

We do the market research for you! We price every item based on brand, condition, and what similar pieces are actually selling for — then send you a pricing summary to approve before anything goes live. You'll have 7 days to respond, and if we don't hear back, your items will be listed at the proposed prices so there's no delay. Realistic pricing is the secret to selling fast, and nobody knows the pre-loved market like we do.

When you complete the Consignment Request Form, you will have the option to add a minimum price to each item if you would like to.
