Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 June 2026
Second Signature (“we”, “us” or “our”) is a women’s secondhand clothing boutique and consignment service based in Chelsea Heights, Victoria, Australia, operating online at secondsignature.com.au. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information responsibly.
Although Second Signature currently operates as a small business with annual turnover below AU$3 million — and may therefore be exempt from the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) under the small business exemption — we have chosen to voluntarily comply with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) as a matter of good practice and to give our customers and sellers confidence in how their information is handled.
This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights available to you, whether you are shopping with us or consigning items through us.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 When you shop with us
When you browse our online store or make a purchase, we collect information through our ecommerce platform, Shopify. This may include:
• Contact details: name, email address, phone number, delivery and billing address
• Order information: items purchased, order value, payment confirmation and order history
• Account details, if you choose to create one
• Device and browsing information collected automatically, such as IP address, browser type and pages viewed, via standard cookies and analytics
• Communications you send us, such as enquiries or support requests
Payment card details are processed and stored directly by our payment provider (via Shopify Payments or another configured gateway). We do not directly receive or store full card numbers.
1.2 When you consign with us
If you sell items through our consignment service, we collect additional information necessary to manage your consignment and pay you for sales, including:
• Your name, contact details and address
• Bank account details, used solely to process your consignment payouts
• Proof of identity or provenance documentation (such as a receipt or authentication), which we may request for items valued at $150 or more, in line with our consignment terms
• Details of the items you consign, including descriptions, condition notes and photographs
• Records of bookings, agreements you sign with us, and correspondence relating to your consignment
We only request identity or provenance documents where reasonably necessary to verify an item, and we only use bank details to process payouts owed to you. We do not use this information for any other purpose.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use personal information for purposes including:
• Processing and fulfilling orders, including arranging postage and tracking
• Managing consignment bookings, listings, approvals and payouts
• Verifying the authenticity or provenance of higher-value consigned items
• Responding to enquiries, resolving issues and providing customer support
• Sending order updates, payout statements and consignment-related notices
• Sending marketing communications, where you have opted in to receive them
• Improving our website, product range and services
• Meeting our legal, accounting and tax obligations
We only use your information for the purposes it was collected for, or for a related purpose you would reasonably expect.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only where necessary to operate our business:
• Shopify, our ecommerce platform provider, which processes orders, payments and standard store analytics on our behalf
• Payment processors, to securely process payments and, for consignment sellers, payouts
• Australia Post or other shipping carriers, to deliver orders
• Email or marketing tools, if used, to send opted-in marketing communications
• Professional advisers (such as accountants), where reasonably required
• Government or regulatory bodies, where we are required to do so by law
Any third party that processes personal information on our behalf is only permitted to use it for the purposes we specify, and is expected to keep it secure.
4. Cookies and Analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies, provided through Shopify’s standard platform tools, to keep your cart working, remember your preferences and understand how visitors use our site. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, though some site features may not work properly if you do.
If we begin using additional marketing or analytics tools (such as email marketing platforms or advertising pixels), we will update this policy to reflect that.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your personal information is stored securely using Shopify’s hosting infrastructure and, where applicable, the systems of our payment and shipping partners. We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, including any legal, accounting or reporting requirements — for example, order and consignment payout records may be retained for the period required under Australian tax law.
6. Your Rights and Choices
You can:
• Ask us what personal information we hold about you
• Ask us to correct inaccurate or out-of-date information
• Ask us to delete your personal information, subject to our legal and accounting obligations
• Opt out of marketing communications at any time, using the unsubscribe link or by contacting us directly
• Ask a question or raise a concern about how your information is handled
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 8 below. We will respond within a reasonable time, and in any event within 30 days.
7. Children’s Privacy
Our store and consignment service are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Contact Us

9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, tools or legal obligations. The “Last updated” date at the top of this policy shows when it was last revised. We encourage you to review it periodically.
